Position Summary: We are currently seeking a highly motivated and creative scientist to assist in the development and clinical testing of novel methods to guide cancer therapy in the Letai lab at Dana Farber Cancer Institute. The Letai lab is a translational medicine laboratory with a strong emphasis on functional precision medicine and improving patient therapy. The Research Technician will have the unique opportunity to support clinical testing that will influence patient care, as well as participate in the research and design of even better methods and biomarkers.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Communicate with cancer clinicians to coordinate patient sample collection and processing, ensuring proper documentation and quality control.
  • Set up and perform routine experiments in a clinical setting.
  • Perform statistical analysis of data and format into a clinical report.
  • Assist in the research, development, and optimization of new assays to be used by the lab or in clinical trials.
  • Collaborate with scientists from other laboratories and institutions to design experiments for
  • Maintain cell cultures.
  • Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and reagents.
  • Prepare and present reports or lab meetings.

Qualifications and Skills:

About LFPM:
The Laboratory of Functional Precision Medicine (LPFM) engages with clinicians and basic scientists at Harvard Medical School (HMS) affiliated hospitals to develop innovative and translational approaches to treat cancer.  The long-term goal of the LFPM is to treat human patient samples with compounds and biologics to: (1) identify new compounds that can be used to treat cancers, and (2) develop personalized cancer regimens.  The LFPM is a multi-disciplinary effort within the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) and the Harvard Program in Therapeutic Science (HiTS) at HMS, and expects to have an impact on the treatment of cancer.

About the position:
The LFPM is looking for an energetic and dynamic post-doctoral candidate to lead projects identifying chemical vulnerabilities of human cancer cells.  The candidate will use a chemical screening platform based on the dynamic BH3 profiling technology from the laboratory of Anthony Letai.  Rapid translational and biological applications of these studies are foreseen. The chemical screens performed by the candidate will be highly collaborative, and require interactions with: oncologists from DFCI and Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), high-throughput chemical screening platforms at HMS, and chemists and bioinformaticians at DFCI and HMS.  These unique collaborations and resources will provide the candidate with the opportunity to interact with world-leaders in cancer research while also making a profound impact on human health. The ideal candidate will have a PhD in biomedical science, and a strong interest in translational research.  They must thrive on scientific and engineering challenges, enjoy working with interdisciplinary teams, and communicating with basic scientists and cancer clinicians.  The candidate will perform high-throughput chemical screens at the Institute for Chemistry and Cell Biology (ICCB) at HMS, and work with clinicians to strategize how to implement chemical screening results into the clinic.  Therefore, communication, wet-lab proficiency and data management are critical skills.  Since these screens involve high throughput microscopy, a background in imaging is useful, though not an absolute requirement. Other duties involve participation in lab meetings, group meetings, and department meetings.  The candidate is expected to present their work at local seminars, and scientific conferences.   Moreover, the candidate is expected to produce scientific publications.
 
Basic qualifications:
PhD in biological science
Proficiency in wet-lab biology, and mammalian cell culture
Excellent written English and a familiarity with presenting biological results
Communication with multiple collaborators is key
 
Other skills:
Proficiency in microscopy, immunofluorescence, flow cytometry, handling of primary human tumor samples is desirable.  However, these are not absolute requirements if the candidate is trainable in these areas.

We are currently seeking a highly motivated and talented technician to assist with research focusing on identifying novel therapies for treatment of cancers in the Letai Laboratory at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (letailab.dana-farber.org). The technician will be an integral member of our research team and will work together with Dr. Shruti Bhatt and Dr. Veerle Daniels to support ongoing studies including establishment of tumor bearing mouse models, measurements of in-vivo drug responses, high throughput chemical screens on patient derived tumor cells and established cell lines. The candidate will be expected to independently carry out essential research functions in the laboratory that include but are not limited to: treatment of research animals (mice), tissue harvesting, tumor dissociation, standard cell culture, flow cytometry experiments and microscopy studies. In addition, the candidate will be expected to make presentations at lab meetings as well as write up methods and materials, results, figure legends and constructing figures for grant proposals, progress reports, and manuscripts. The successful applicant will be included as an author on publications derived from this work. RESEARCH TECHNICIAN/OPERATIONS COORDINATOR -- filled
We are currently seeking a Research Operation Coordinator to join our team in the Letai Lab at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/Harvard Medical School. This position includes but is not limited to: managing basic lab functions (such as ordering and stocking), overseeing and troubleshooting daily activities in the lab, administering the travel and daily schedule of Dr. Anthony Letai, and doing wet laboratory work. We are seeking a highly-motivated and independent individual who is organized, good at problem solving, and has prior experience as a research technician. The position requires good time management skills as it combines two different roles: lab administrator and laboratory technician. The candidate will spend approximately half of the time managing the lab and assisting Dr. Letai and the other half working in the lab. The candidate will be doing wet lab work involving high throughput chemical screens on patient derived tumor cells and established cell lines. He/she will be expected to independently carry out essential research functions in the laboratory, such as treatment of research animals (mice), tissue harvesting, tumor dissociation, standard cell culture, and microscopy studies. The successful applicant will be included as an author on publications derived from this work and will gain useful leadership skills from this position. POSTDOC/SCIENTIST -- filled

​Team Macrophage in The Letai Laboratory has an immediate opening for a Research Fellow for a 24 month appointment in an exciting new area at the frontier of cancer immunotherapy.  The project focuses on macrophage biology involving macrophage activation and tumor clearance.  The successful candidate will work as part of a small team at The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in close relationship with a major pharmaceutical company, who is sponsoring this research.  The effort involves conducting preclinical translational research aimed at characterizing an emerging immunomodulatory mechanism of action
 
We are seeking individuals with significant experience in epigenetics and/or metabolomics.  The successful candidate must have a PhD or equivalent with several years of relevant experience in immunology and immunotherapy and be highly motivated.   S/he will be expected to carry out extensive analysis of the tumor microenvironment with a focus on the myeloid cell population.  The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience working with primary human blood and tumor specimens, excellent skills in growth and cytokine/effector assays, multi-color flow cytometry, phagocytosis and cell death assays, and breast cancer models. 
 
Schedule: Full time.  The hours of this position will vary to meet deadlines in order to complete experiments and achieve project goals in a timely fashion.

​Job Summary – Team Macrophage Technician
We are seeking a motivated scientist to help discover and validate novel immunotherapy for clinical use.  We are working with a major pharmaceutical company as part of a sponsored research agreement to validate these novel compounds for Phase I Clinical Trials.  This is a fast paced, highly rewarding position with the opportunity to make a significant difference in patient care. 
The successful candidate will be predominantly involved with working with rodent models of breast cancer.  He or she will also be involved in lab management, including ordering, maintaining laboratory equipment and preparing reagents and solutions.  This exciting opportunity includes the opportunity to work closely with a junior faculty member, who will be their supervisor and mentor; as well as with a senior faculty mentor.  The successful candidate will participate in formal and informal presentations of results to staff; and sharing of authorship in publications.

RESEARCH TECHNICIAN -- filled

We are seeking motivated and creative scientists for research assistant positions to assist in the discovery of new drugs and the development of new methods to guide cancer therapy in the Letai laboratory at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School (letailab.dana-farber.org).  This project will involve high throughput chemical screens on tumors, animal studies, and interactions with cancer clinicians.  The ideal candidate is smart, excited to learn new technologies, works well in teams, and has laboratory experience in cell culture.  Additionally, experience in fluorescence microscopy, tumor handling, or animal research will be viewed favorably, but are not required.   It is expected that the successful applicant will be included as an author on publications deriving from this work.  You will be mentored by both physicians and scientists.  Prior research assistants have gone on to both medical school and graduate school. 
 
This is a particularly exciting time as we transition our methods from laboratory research techniques into clinical testing where our methods, and the candidate, will have the opportunity to influence patient care.  As such, the position would involve interacting with both scientists and physicians, and will involve the handling of mouse and human tissues.  Good communication skills are essential.
 
Bachelors of Science or Bachelor of Arts with scientific specialty required.   Experience working in a medical or scientific research setting or comparable technology-oriented business environment is preferred. Two full-time positions will be filled.  Start date is in June.
