Veerle Daniels, Ph.D.
After completing my PhD training at the KU Leuven in my home-country of Belgium, I joined the Letai lab in September 2015.
I have always been interested in the link between metabolism and programmed cell death. That is why I am currently investigating how metabolism can affect the activity of the BCL-2 family proteins and the mitochondrial priming of cancer cells. I hope the insights we get from this study will lead to the development of metabolism targeting compounds that can be used to improve the efficacy of currently available cancer chemotherapeutics.
When I am not in the lab, I really love being outside to bike, hike or run and explore Boston and its surroundings. But most of all I enjoy going out to dinner with my husband and testing the different beers the USA has to offer.
